A is for Aden and Z is for Zanzibar... Now what is between? For the world wide classical era philatelist and stamp collector, a country specific philatelic survey is offered by the blog author, Jim Jackson, with two albums: Big Blue, aka Scott International Part 1 (checklists available), and Deep Blue, aka William Steiner's Stamp Album Web PDF pages. In addition, "Bud" offers commentary and a look at his completely filled Big Blue. Interested? So into the Blues...

Kimble's July Postmark Calendar

Kimble'a July Calendar
Into the Deep Blue
As a collaborative project, Dan and I are presenting a postmark calendar for all 366 possible days of the year, represented by interesting appropriate date cancellation stamps from the Kimble collection.

We are publishing, during 2017, a monthly blog post with the date postmarks for that month for everyone's enjoyment.

  1. Well... about July 10. The postmark is "PKXP No. 63B" PKXP = "Postkupéexpedition" or "Postal Compartment". We're talking about railway post here.

A Postal Compartment in the Swedish postal system was a special railway carriage acting as a movable post office, sorting room and mail transportation. (A PKP was a similar arrangement, but without the post office expedition).

In 1888, PKXP no. 63 travelled between the capital of Stockholm and the municipality of Nässjö in the province of Småland.

This postmark is of Normal Cancellation Type 14 and was used between 1885 and 1915

  2. Hi Jim, will give my 0.2 c on the postmarks :
    July 5th
Thollembeek (in the older grammar they wrote it with Th, nowadays it's written with T)
    https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tollembeek
    July 18
Seems to be Liège indeed, beneath is written "depart" and on the right "Guillemin"which is a railway station which explain the word "Depart"

    July 20
Bayreuth? that's a wild guess but first name that pops up seeing the cancel
    July 24
Beeringen = Beringen indeed, like with TH/T some names / words were written with two vowels (?) nowawayds with one only
    July 26
    Bruxelles = Brussels to me
    July 27
from a town/villlage in the Pyrennées, which leads you only a bit further since you have Pyrennées Orientales et Atlantique, no it's from NarbONNE so Orientales

The extra one from Belgium is from Seraing (should have posted it upside down I recognised it immediately that way ;-))

    Best regards

    Axel

    2. Jim, I think Gene is right : Narbonne is in the Aude department, Bayonne is in the Pyrennées...my apologies
